1. What is SAFENTRIX Outbound Email Security?
SAFENTRIX Outbound Email Security is an add-on service to SAFENTRIX Anti SPAM/Virus filtering service that ensures that
- Viruses
- SPAM, and
- Unauthorized data
cannot go out of your Network through your Email servers.
2. Why is Outbound Email Security important?Outbound Email Security is important to:
- Protect your reputation. Studies show that if a prospect/client receives a Virus/SPAM from your organization, they are less likely to do business with your organization.
- Protect Unauthorized data from going out.
- Protect your Email server from mis-use. Even if your Email server is hacked, "Enterprise Security Mode" ensures that the hacker cannot sent SPAM/Virus/Unauthorized data out.
- Ensure that genuine emails never get delayed or rejected due to other SPAM emails going out. Normally, if SPAM's go out of your Email server, your IP will be blacklisted and this will affect genuine emails also. With SAFENTRIX, your genuine emails never get affected.
- SAFENTRIX Outbound Email Security ensures 100% Delivery for your genuine outgoing emails.
- Get Email/SMS notifications when your Email server is mis-used (by internal or external personnel).
- Save Bandwidth.
3. How does SAFENTRIX Outbound Email Security work?
When you implement SAFENTRIX Outbound Email Security,
- All your outgoing emails are redirected to SAFENTRIX Servers.
- SAFENTRIX Servers will scan the email for Virus/SPAM/Unsolicited Bulk Emails.
- If any infected email is found, email is rejected (and bounced to sender).
- If the email is not SPAM/Virus, it is delivered to destination.
4. How is SAFENTRIX Outbound Email Security implemented?
SAFENTRIX Outbound Email Security is implemented in two ways:
- Individual users sending emails from their Email clients are asked to set their Outgoing SMTP Server as 'smtp.safentrix.com'. Detailed steps can be found here
- Email servers are configured to send their outgoing emails to 'smtp.safentrix.com' (set as SmartHost/RelayHost). Detailed steps can be found here
5. Is there any limitation in the number/volume of emails that can be sent out?
No. You can send any number of emails/any volume of emails as long as
- You comply with the Acceptable Usage Policy (AUP), and
- Use a Valid 'From:' address in all the Email communications.
6. What is the SAFENTRIX Outbound Security Service Acceptable Usage Policy (AUP)?
- You cannot send out SPAM emails.
- You cannot send out Unsolicited Bulk Emails.
- You cannot obtain a third party mailing list and send transactional/promotional emails.
If SAFENTRIX detects any user violating the policy, the Outbound SMTP Relay privilege of the user will be suspended immediately.
If multiple such violations appear in a domain, SAFENTRIX may block services and blacklist the domain.
7. Can I send out Bulk emails through SAFENTRIX Outbound Security Service? While Unsolicited Bulk Emails/SPAM cannot be send, bulk emails of transactional nature (relating to normal course of business) can be sent.
For example, if you have 10,000 clients and you are sending them routine emails on their order status, SAFENTRIX Outbound Security Service can be used.
8. How much does SAFENTRIX Outbound Relay Service cost?Nothing. SAFENTRIX Outbound Email Security is an add-on service to SAFENTRIX Standard/Enterprise service and is fully free.
If a SAFENTRIX Standard Service user sends an email using SAFENTRIX Outbound Relay Service, a one line text advertisement with a link is appended to the email as a signature.
An example follows:
STOP SPAM, STOP Virus, SAVE Bandwidth
www.safentrix.com
There is no advertisement appended for SAFENTRIX Enterprise Service users.
9. How is SAFENTRIX Outbound Email Security implemented for Individual users?- Email Administrators use SAFENTRIX Control panel to enable SAFENTRIX Outbound SMTP Relay Service for specified users (see SAFENTRIX Outbound Security - Installation Guide for detailed instructions).
- Users set Outgoing SMTP Server in their Email client as smtp.safentrix.com and use following details to send out emails.
Outgoing SMTP Port 2525 (Alternately 587, 25) SMTP Auth Account name Full email address (e.g., info@safentrix.com) SMTP Auth Password Incoming Email Server Password (or) the one set at Set SMTP Relay password page.
- Once the above is set, emails will go from user to Internet as follows:
10. How is SAFENTRIX Outbound Email Security implemented for Email Servers?
SAFENTRIX Outbound Email Security for Email servers can be implemented using two mechanisms.
- SPF (or)
- SMTP Auth
The steps follow.
- Email Administrators use SAFENTRIX Control panel to enable SAFENTRIX Outbound SMTP Relay Service for the domain using one of the above mechanisms. (see SAFENTRIX Outbound Security - Installation Guide for detailed instructions).
- Administrator sets SmartHost/RelayHost in the Email server as smtp.safentrix.com. If SMTP Auth mechanism is used, Email administrator fills in SMTP Auth parameters in the Email server.
- Once the above is set, emails will go from user to Email Server to Internet as follows:
11. How does SAFENTRIX Outbound Email Security save Bandwidth?
SAFENTRIX Outbound Email Security is implemented by relaying emails through SAFENTRIX Servers.
- Suppose multiple emails are sent (say 100 emails of 200 Kb each), if no relaying is done, 20MB of bandwidth is utilized.
However, when relaying through SAFENTRIX servers, your Email server sends the email only once. This means that your Email server uses only 200Kb of Bandwidth.
Multiply it over multiple email sessions and the saving of Bandwidth will add up.
- When your Email server sends emails, it has to do a DNS query, contact the Email servers (possibly multiple ones) and if any of them is not reachable, queue the Email and try again.
All this is avoided when relaying through SAFENTRIX.
